“I am my own solution,” Ryan Haddon shared in this episode about dealing with trauma triggers and the power of the subconcious.
In this powerful episode about dealing with trauma triggers and connecting with your subconscious, you will hear from Ryan Haddon. She is a certified life and spiritual coach, hypnotherapist and meditation teacher.
Ryan does private workshops and is the in-house Life Coach at Kourtney Kardashian’s website Poosh. Ryan worked for Good Morning America, The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour, Extra! and Court TV before working at a film production company.
While living in Hollywood, Ryan realized she had been looking for happiness in all the wrong places. On her path of healing, she sought out mentors, healers, spiritualists and a tribe of people to learn and grow alongside.
In this conversation, you will hear about how Ryan has a different approach to triggers. How she says they can be gifts and what we can learn from them.
Triggers Can Point to Where We’re Not Free
Ryan shares that we don’t need to run from a trigger because they are giving us information from the subconscious.
She describes when we feel triggered, “We can feel like we’re out of control.”
But as a proponent of the subconscious she says when we feel triggered it’s because our subconscious is engaged and the trigger that is happening is not matching reality.
“From the perspective of the subconscious it’s interesting to say ‘Okay, what’s going on?’ Get curious instead of trying to pop out of it.”
Create Space when Dealing with Trauma Triggers
When working with clients, Ryan suggests creating space when dealing with trauma triggers. Instead of trying to outrun it, give it space and to dive in deeper to figure out what’s there.
She says when you feel triggered, instead of saying ‘Oh, this isn’t okay’ or ‘I can’t feel like this’ … breathe, become calm and ask yourself ‘what’s going on with me?’
Asking Questions when You’re Triggered
Ryan says getting curious is the key.
She shares these questions to ask yourself in a loving way as you’re dealing with trauma triggers.
- What’s going on with me?
- What is going on for me?
- I’m having a big reaction, what is this about?
- What does this remind me of?
First Step to Seeing Triggers as Gifts
This question in the podcast was so powerful because I asked Ryan what the first step to seeing triggers as gifts is so we can stop trying to run from them.
She offered this incredible advice, “From this moment forward, tell yourself you’re not going to abandon yourself anymore.”
She then says that means committing to being done seeking for external explanations, validation and information from other people. She says putting the line in the sand is important to no longer project issues on others and to take 100% responsibility for yourself.
