What are you saying to yourself that is absolutely unacceptable? Have you said, “I’m not good enough,” “I’m fat,” “I’m worthless” or “I can’t do it?”
If your best friend came to you and said, “My husband says I am fat. He says I’m ugly. That I’m not good enough. He says I’m not a good wife, I’m not a good mom… and honestly, I’m just worthless.” What would you say?
You’d say what any good friend would say to any good friend – you’d tell her verbal abuse is just as bad as physical abuse. You might try to talk her out of the relationship or at least offer support in services to help her. You’d tell her “he is wrong… and no one should be talking to you that way.”
But here’s the thing – so many of us are talking to ourselves in this way.
